Michael Gove sparked fear earlier this week when he suggested that children should not travel between households. But he later apologised for causing confusion, saying it “may be necessary” for some to children to move.

But what are the rules under the strict new measures designed to slow the spread of Covid-19?

The government guidance says: “Where parents do not live in the same household, children under 18 can be moved between their parents’ homes.”
