Buttigieg says his city, South Bend, is growing right now because of immigrants.
Buttigieg says that the only people who buy into Donald Trump’s hatred of immigrants are people “who don’t know any”.
Yang says his father grew up as a peanut farmer in Asia in a home with no floor, and that he is now running for president. His point being that his story is the best kind of American immigrant story.
“I stand with Barack Obama all eight years. Good, bad, and indifferent,” Biden says.
“He wants to take credit for Obama’s work but not have to answer any questions,” Castro says of Biden.
Biden has dodged the question on whether he is willing to say the Obama administration made a mistake by its record of deportations.
He said the president made the best choices he could. Then, when asked if he did the best he could, he said: “I am the vice president”.
Biden says that comparing the Obama administration to the Trump administration on immigration is “outrageous”.
He says that he is “proud to have served” with Obama, citing DACA and other measures that were taken.
Sanders says “What we are looking at is a corrupt political system.”
He says he “will not be intimidated by the NRA”.
Warren says corruption is the reason there is no movement on gun control, and calls to eliminate the filibuster.
Warren says that “we have a Congress that is beholden to the gun industry”, and says that Congress needs to roll back the filibuster.
Booker says that nobody will bring the passion he will to the fight for gun control regulations.
Klobuchar attacks Mitch McConnell, says that there are three bills on his desk that could limit gun violence in the United States.
O’Rourke stands by his plan to take people’s guns “if it is a weapon that was designed to kill people on the battlefield.”
“If the high impact high velocity round.. shreds everything in your body, because it was designed to do that” on the battlefield, O’Rourke.
“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR15, your AK47,” O’Rourke says.
“Obviously he didn’t pull the trigger, but he’s certainly been tweeting out the ammunition,” Harris says on whether Trump is responsible for the shootings we’ve seen lately.
Harris is making her case for executive action on gun violence, and saying she has seen a lot of autopsies.
It’s a line she has used before, in a debate as well.
The crowd in Texas is cheering after Biden praised O’Rourke’s response to the shooting in El Paso.
“I’m the only one who has ever beat the NRA. I’m the only one who has ever beat the NRA nationally,” Biden says, referring to the Brady Bill that was passed int he 1990s.
“The fact of the matter is that what’s happened is that we’re in a situation now where there are so many people who are in jail who shouldn’t be in jail,” Biden says, calling for a change in the model.
“Nobody should be in jail for a nonviolent crime,” he said.
