Here’s the weekend in numbers:

? Over 121 beaches
? Over 1,050 people took part
♻️ More than 12,500L of rubbish collected (the equivalent of 25,000 plastic bottles)
One big community coming together as a force for good!

Team Mindful Chef

On Saturday 14th the #MCCoastClean took place on over 121 beaches across the country and further afield. Founders Myles and Giles headed back home to Devon to take part on beaches where they grew up. First up was Exmouth beach where we were joined by the largest community college in the country.

Exmouth Community College
It was amazing to see so many young people give up their weekend to support their local area
Sidmouth Beach

We then headed to Giles’ hometown of Sidmouth where we were overwhelmed by the involvement from local residents and businesses in a bid to clear their beach from plastic. We even enjoyed a paddle-board session thanks to Jurassic Paddle Sports with fellow MC’ers afterwards!

Around the country…

Tentsmuir, Scotland

Finlay The Kilted Yogi & Mindful Chef ambassador held a complementary yoga session at his clean in Tentsmuir

Grimsby

Our wonderful fish supplier JCS rounded up their team in Grimsby

Gaddings Dam: the UK’s highest beach

This secret beach, in West Yorkshire’s Calder Valley, is just 23 miles from Manchester and sits at 355m above sea level. It’s run by a group of volunteers who rescued the dam from closure in 2001!

The Thames, Barnes Bridge

Family clear-up of the Thames riverside in Barnes

WestGate Beach

Eastbourne

St Andrew’s Prep school took 50 pupils from year 3 and 4 to the coast in Eastbourne

Viking Bay, Broadstairs Town Team

What a great collective community effort at Viking Bay. Fab to see volunteers old and new come together to collect plastic and other rubbish from the beach and surrounding area.

Mar Menor, Spain

Two members of the MC Team Olivia and Heidi were on a family holiday in Mar Menor, Spain when it was hit by the worst storm in over 140 years. There was an enormous amount of debris washed up on coast, so they managed to fill an entire truck with over 11 bags of rubbish in just over an hour.

What’s next…

The overall response has been incredible and it shows the impact we can achieve when we all come together. If you weren’t able to join us on the day don’t worry, our next community event – our annual Reverse Advent Calendar – is kicking off soon. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook or join our closed community group for updated.
