“There is still a way to go before the [netball] Superleague becomes professional and one of the things is funding.

“You need players to be able to train full-time and at the moment it’s just the core group of England players who can do that. But it’s heading in the right direction.

“The teams are also becoming more professional, upping their training, changing their attitude towards it all and the players are buying into it. We’re definitely seeing an increase in performance.”

One place the league is not lacking is in competitiveness with the top four teams separated by just three points in this year’s competition. Predicting the winners is no easy task after double reigning champions Wasps lost two of their last three games to relinquish what had been an iron grip at the summit.

The most recent of those, on Monday night, saw them let an eight-goal lead slip with just seven minutes remaining against last year’s runners-up Loughborough Lightning and they now face new league leaders Manchester Thunder in a mouthwatering top of the table clash this weekend. Thunder won the reverse fixture at the start of the month and it is many people’s idea of a dress rehearsal for the Grand Final.

Watch Celtic Dragons v London Pulse live on Sky Sports Action and Sky Sports Mix – available without a sports package – from 6.45pm on Monday 25 March.
