Every week, we’re sharing your recommendations for how best to pass the time during this period of social distancing.
Many thanks to everyone who has filled in our survey already; if you haven’t had a chance yet, please do take five minutes to share your ideas. We’ll get through social isolation/distancing by pulling together as a community and this is a very simple way of keeping each other entertained and connected.
This week’s theme has been nutrition and how to stay nourished when you don’t have access to the wide array of foods and meals you normally do.
Lots of you shared tips on how to cook with limited resources.
Here are just a few of our favourites:
For anyone struggling to get through those loaves they panic bought last weeks…
If you have spare bread, keep it in the freezer. It’ll last three to six months.
There’s nothing like a one-pot stew for cheap and filling grub!
Get your slow cooker and find a few ideas from the internet. With a bag of dried lentils or beans and the odd tin of tomatoes, I made a great big pot of vegetable chilli. I cannot tell that it doesn’t have meat in it! It goes great on a baked potato or rice. Don’t forget to top with grated cheese – delicious!
Don’t let the calendar dictate when you can have a tasty meal!
Be imaginative and try new things. I am having pancakes for my meal tonight – I need few ingredients and it is cheap.
Reduce food waste, save money and make a delicious supper:
Gather leftovers (carrot, onion, garlic, celery, cheese, fish or meat or tofu), slice and dice, add salt and pepper with fresh or dry herbs, add beaten eggs and make an omelette!
