What are you doing now?
My latest, and also most time consuming investment – is my equity part in AmaZix.com, the world’s largest blockchain advisory firm. They started in 2017, but have already successfully assisted more than 120 projects to cumulative raise more than USD 1,3 billion in the ICO space. They have a strong track record with clients like HDAC ($258M), Bancor ($153M) and Bankex ($71M), and they have already +100 team members distributed all over the world covering all time zones 24/7.
What I am working on now is to transform their successful business from ICO-advise to a full-scale advisory company with all relevant disciplines, i.e. PR & Marketing, Digital Advisory, Tax & Legal and Corporate Finance.
Today the “old” AmaZix is based out of Hong Kong, but we will soon launch a new corporate structure, where our new disciplines will be introduced and carried out fully regulated in Switzerland.
How was the last year, what worked well, what didn’t move as quickly as you would have liked?
As lawyer and a venture capitalist my take is the following 5 headlines:
The World Economic Forum has predicted, that within a decade, we can store 10 percent of the global GDP on blockchains. This is why the blockchain technology is considered as the foundational platform of the 4th Industrial Revolution, but that is also why the technology is moving faster than the regulation around it.
The blockchain technology is much more than financial solutions, and what I expect to see is big unicorn-projects with real use-cases doing things in a smarter and more disruptive way.
The STO market is at its very early stage and has drawn a lot of attention. Everyone is focusing on delivering fully compliant projects, and that is good.
The ICO market is not dead. Fewer requests, sure, but the remaining ones seems to be better structured.
The regulatory landscape is developing rapidly, however not with the necessary clarity. I would love international organizations like OECD to facilitate some Guidelines to give a regulatory framework on some basic definitions on securities, utilities etc. They have done it on international tax law, and I know that they have set up a brilliant team of expert lawyers to do the same in the blockchain space. I look forward to see what they will present, because clarity is needed.
What are your plans for the future?
Well, my biggest ambition is to add a dedicated Venture Capital Fund to the AmaZix eco-system. Then AmaZix will end up having a fully regulated A-Z infrastructure facilitating all aspects of the blockchain economy.
I am working hard on this part, but I cannot disclose more details, since we are discussing with some strategic partners on how to structure everything. But it looks extremely promising, and the trend is our friend, since cryptocurrency funds are the fastest growing segment of the hedge fund industry at the moment.

What will you be doing about at this event?
At the Monaco Blockchain Conference I will – together with my colleague Jose Macedo (Head of Advisory, AmaZix) – facilitate a “Masterclass” with the following topic: “Lessons from USD 1,3 billion worth of token sales”.
At the Masterclass, we will highlight how AmaZix have assisted +120 projects to raise more than USD 1,3 billion during the last 24 months. During this period, we have learned exactly what it takes to execute a successful token sale as well as pitfalls to avoid. Our session will give both a high-level overview of the principles behind a successful token sale as well as the specific step-by-step formula we have refined to help projects to go from idea to successful token sale.

What inspired you to attend it?
I am invited to give my Masterclass at the Monaco Blockchain Conference, but most importantly, I look forward to network with all the great minds, who are also joining the Monaco event. And that is one of the most important lessons, I want to share: The best deals are always made face-to-face with people you trust and have met in real life.
If you want to be successful in this space, you cannot just do your research behind your computer. You need to get out there and interact and build up your personal relationships. And in this respect, Monaco is always an interesting place to be.

Which influencers and websites do you follow to keep up to date with the latest developments?
My feed on LinkedIn is very powerful, since I am connected with many of the top influencers in this industry.
Some believe, that LinkedIn should be limited to connections, you have met in real life, but I never hesitate to reach out to great minds and projects, even if I have not met them. If I later want to meet them, I can always go to a conference and introduce myself. That part is easier at the receptions following the conferences, so don’t get yourself trapped in the bar, but go out and build genuine relationships with your connections. It not only works, it’s also much more fun with a cocktail in your hand.
For me it is all about information gathering and staying on top of relevant tech news. I use LinkedIn to navigate from and to get exposed to recommended articles from my peers. And if people are interested in following my work, they are always welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn.
How can people find out more about what you are working on?
