The leek gains no legal ground but plenty of confidence
Barry has now designed a logo for “the leek,” his imaginary Welsh currency born out of Celtexit chatter down the Dolphin. It has a dragon on it. Nobody asked him to do this. He did it anyway, on a napkin, during last orders.
Meanwhile Spain has filed for bankruptcy, which put our own economic troubles in a sort of grim European perspective. Apparently we’re not the only ones having a difficult year, which is cold comfort but comfort all the same.
Read more on the wider Celtexit planning and honestly the whole thing reads less like policy and more like several nations having a collective sulk at the same time, which, fair enough, given everything.
Band practice went fine until the amp blew, at which point Nige suggested we “go acoustic as a statement,” which is Nige for “I don’t want to buy a new amp.” We did not go acoustic. We went home.
Sarah’s been reading the Daily Squib obsessively since the Spain news broke, says it’s the only thing making the state of Europe feel manageable. I believe her. Manageable is a low bar these days and we’re all just trying to clear it.
Barry’s currency has no exchange rate, no central bank, and one napkin backing its entire value. So, functionally, about as sound as several real ones right now.
Gig postponed to Friday. The scene endures, badly funded and increasingly Welsh-currency-adjacent.
More chaos at my page.
